10 tips every girl should know!

Fickle fashion trends and the growing emphasis on personal style can intimidate the best of us. Here are our go-to fashion tips that will make your style standout

Tip 1:
Afraid of goofing up the print-on-print trend. Just play around with different prints in the same color palette for a chic daytime outfit.

Tip 2:
Give your white button down a chic upgrade with pastel floral bottoms. A fun look for when you're shopping of going for a coffee refuel with the girls.

Tip 3:
A blazer is a girl's best friend. Add a punch to that loose tee and jeans combination with a crisp well-tailored blazer. Summer-fy the look with light fabric blazers, kimonos or wraps.

Tip 4:
Add a touch of your personality with statement shades. Ideal way to take your style up a notch in summer. Go all out with bold floral sunnies or the ultra mod reflective ones. I'm personally lusting over pastel-rimmed glares.

Tip 5:
Layer long necklaces to create an illusion of a longer torso. The longer the necklace, the taller you will look. Add multiple necklaces for a layered look. If you have a bunch of short necklaces, tie ribbon to them to make them longer. The ribbon can add colour and texture to your outfit.

Tip 6:
Just stash a colourful scarf in your purse or carry-on to transform simple tees in the time it takes to make a knot scarf. Works perfectly for as a light layer for those chilly air conditioned malls. . Maximise your scarves and wear them as a chic turban.

Tip 7:
Know your measurements before you shop. Not only will it cut down the time you spend trying on clothes, it will help you choose outfits that fit your body perfectly.

Tip 8:
Energise your look with boldly hued shoes and bags. Not only is a cobalt blue satchel more lively than your everyday black, but it's also surprisingly versatile. It perfectly complements your navy suit as well.

Tip 9:
Every time you buy a new item think in multiples. Try and visualise at least three looks with that item. If you succeed then it's worthy our money.

Tip 10:
Unlearn all the fashion rules you were taught growing up. Brown and black, gold and silver look great together after all, it's all about bringing out your unique style. The inimitable Lynn Dell, rightfully said “fashion says me too, style says only me.”

Shopping online during the scorching summer heat comes by as a blessing. Our latest haunt was at Shopimagine, a website that offers a free online video styling session, adorable pink box packaging and fancy french designer lingerie. We were pleasantly surprised with their tailor-fit silhouettes, affordable price range and prompt delivery. Any of you interested in getting yourself some goodies feel free to use this coupon code SISTYLST30A which offers 30% off exclusively for our readers!

Sonu wore a colour-block tank with shorts
Tank, c/o ShopImagine| blazer, A-J Store| shorts, Colaba Causeway| sling, Hidesign| shoes, Zara (worn here
  • I'm loving this skirt-cum-shorts trend this season. They bring back fond memories from my tomboy days back in the late 90s when this trend was quite a hit.
  • Yes, we’ve layered with a blazer in summer! If you prefer layering too, then invest in a few light jackets and summer scarves. Soft fabrics in crepe, cotton or cotton silk look great and are ideal for this weather.
  • To neutralise this summer chic look, I completed my look with a military green sling. (previously worn here). Brownie points to the makers, it even fits my ipad!

Two trends

The distance does slow down our outfit blogging a bit. But we are back and extremely excited about this Outfit Post. Hope you like these two trends for summer.

Jasleen went overboard with the the B&W stripes trend
Blouse, Mango| pants Vero Moda| wedges, Pavers England| necklace, Valliyan| clutch, c/o Style Fiesta| ring, Aquamarine
  • Horizontal, vertical, curved or chevron, stripes are back with a vengeance. Gifted with a timeless appeal and perennial style stripes were actually never out of the fashion radar for us.
  • This year, the black and white stripe is the ‘it’ stripe. The classic colour combination allows you to go bold and basic at the same time.
  • Use the stripes to your advantage. Elongate your torso with a vertical stripe blouse or slim down your bottom half with wide-stripe trousers.
  • See some of our favourite striped combinations 12, 3, 4.

Sonu is still stuck with the colour-block trend
Blouse, H&M| skirt, Fashion Street| bag, Michael Kors| wedges, c/o Vinegar| bracelet. J. Crew & Aquamarine| necklace, J. Crew

  • While the raging trends are neon, back & white stripes and graphic prints, I’m still loving the colour-blocking this season.
  • It’s minimalistic, chic and effortless to blend different colours in an outfit. Pastels, neons and even nudes all are fresh options this summer. I chose a mix of pastels with jewel tones for a bright dewy day look.
  • Opt for darker hues to camouflage your problem areas. Pick blacks, maroons, greens and purples bottoms for a pear and hourglass shapes. Pastels, neons and nudes blouses for apples and banana shapes.
  • Can’t have enough of the colour-blocking trend too? See some more looks here and here.

Take 5: Youshine

We recently visited the Youshine Store in Phoenix Market City, Kurla. This quaint little store had some of coolest trends for this season. Theses store goods are also available on the web ( check out some of their bright scarves, one-of-a-kind hair accessories and new arrivals.

Here are our Top 5 picks:

1: Black & Gold
A classic combination for your  jewellery, stop by Youshine for a modern twist to this trend. Expect studs, quirky moustache elements and pyramid shapes!

2: Collars
Doing the rounds for a while are this minimalistic collars. We are digging the plain gold and lace doily-inspired as well. Pair this collar necklace with your favourite shirt to add a fun touch to your look.

3: Multi-link necklaces
Spruce up any outfit with a multi-link necklace. Perfect for a night out with the girlies or just to brighten up a boring outfit.

4: Ear cuffs
Trendy and experimental, the ear cuff seems to be quite a rage this season If you are one for the current fads, then this one is certainly for you!

5: Scarves
Scarves are the perfect transitional pieces from autumn to spring. They are light-weight and are a perfect way to add a pop of colour to your ensemble. We suggest pick a bright hue in rich fabrics like linen or muslin.

Take 5: Vinegar

We love our high street brands to death but on the flip-side we know that the mass appeal and production means we will catch people wearing that same dress we own. This is why we love to mix up our wardrobe with something stylish and unique. Personal shopper and now designer Varsha Bhawnani presents her line of really exclusive and fun fashion at her Bandra store. Her store caters to people who like standing out with their fashion. Divided into Pret and Couture sections, there is something to please every pocket.

We came away with five clear trends that you should be watching out for:

They are making a comeback in a fun and colourful avatar. While jackets can easily become overwhelming (and warm in the Mumbai weather), vests can be used for layering without adding bulk. Button it up for a formal event or simply throw on over a maxi dress for colour and character.

2. Bling bottoms:
As we come closed to the year end, one always spots a sudden rise in sequinned clothes. This season the trend is clearly in favour of blingy bottoms in short scalloped shorts and tiny skirts. Sequins, rhinestones and embroideries must be kept in mind for bottom wear.

3. Detailing:
Keep your eyes open for little details like collars, fun printed linings in jackets and dresses and quirky buttons. This is what sets apart your basic white shirt or a solid blazer.

4. Statement pants:

This season has seen the most variation in pant styles we think. From wide leg palazzos to dhoti and harem styles, find one pair of statement pants at least to fit your body shape.

5. Eat fashionable:
Earlier cafes and books were a growing culture that has slowly extended to fashion as well. Looking good and feeling good about yourself go hand in hand hence eating right is the new way to stay fashionable.
