Whether it's mixing different shades or trying a new silhouette, we've all grown up with some 'fashionable' rules and ideas that often limit our sartorial horizons. Your style is your language to the world. Your way of communicating without speaking. Only once you've truly understood your language will you understand that there are actually NO rules in fashion (besides your office dress code of course).
Take for example the colour black, to me it signifies confidence, control and freedom. Too many orthodox beliefs state it's inauspicious, radical or suggestively seductive. This paradoxical existence of the slimming hue proves how subjective fashion and style are.
Following are the most exploited and popular faux pas:
Repeating outfits: Thanks to popular fashion sites, wearing the same outfit twice, god forbid if you ever have to wear it for the third time, is considered extremely uncool and one of the biggest faux pas of all times. Now I'm not suggesting you walk in a party in the same attire as last week. But here's where your personal style comes to your rescue. Beat the monotony of the same outfit by styling it differently every time you wear it. Mix and match, wear the same dress as a blouse one day and maximise your wardrobe.
Mixing colours: Yes, you are my dear, allowed to mix black and brown, sliver and gold. They beautifully blend in with each other. Next time follow the colour wheel, it's the easiest way to know if the colour match or mash.
Wearing colour to work: Adding a pop of colour never hurt anyone. Not even your dress code at work. Won't it be a refreshing change if you wore a red blouse with your grey trousers? If that got too experimental then try a coloured bag, shoes or even just a light swipe of a bright lipstick.
Loose on loose: The absolute misconception that the loose outfits make you look bulkier makes me shake my head. Now I'm not propagating you wear a garb but instead, cleverly hide your holiday weight with a comfortable silhouette. Imagine your ubiquitous tunic paired with palazzos, this season's hottest trend. Fashion is all about proportions, simply think of ways in which the shapes of every piece of your outfit work together to create the right balance.Written by Sonu Bohra for In Style - Muscat Daily
