My baby sister’s getting married next month and I’m going crazy trying to pack in everything I can for the wedding and for myself. The important thing on my agenda is my skin. I’ve always had the typical Indian problem of uneven skin tone and keep looking for products that can solve the problem. There have been some hits and misses but nothing has been a 100%. After a long time I have tried a range of whitening and this one is by Spawake.
First of all, their products smell divine; they have this super fresh fragrance that actually helps you feel awake. It’s a strong yet soothing smell. I normally find strong smells irritating my nose but not this one. All the products in this range have Sea Minerals, Vitamin C and B3.
Step 1: Whitening Scrub Face Wash
This latherless face wash instantly brightens your skin. I find that gel based face washes like this one work really well on my skin. I was worried that the apricot scrub particles may be too much for everyday use but they are gently exfoliating without being too harsh. I have an oily T-Zone so I concentrate the scrubbing on those parts as well. Price: Rs. 69/- for 50 gms
Rs.129/- for 100 gms
Step 2: Whitening Clear Toner
I am very lazy when it comes to toners so I have found a cheat on how to use them. I just pour a few drops onto my palm and spread it all over my face and neck. I find this more effective than using cotton pads. This toner is thicker than some I have used which I like. Also, it minimises pores quite effectively removing the last traces of impurities from my skin. The only thing is a slight tingling sensation you get as you apply it that quickly fades away. I noticed that all their products in this range give you a slight cooling effect on the skin. For easily tired skin like mine, I love it. Price: Rs. 249 for 200 ml
Step 3: Whitening Triple Care Serum If I had to pick a favourite this would easily be it. My skin is extremely dry and extremely oily in parts which means that heavy moisturisers just form an oily layer and very light moisturisers give me little relief – enter this magic serum. The instructions say apply on clean skin so I use it after cleansing and toning my face and even under makeup. I find that it helps my makeup go on smoother because in this humidity even a primer feels very heavy on my skin. This serum instantly dissolves into the skin. You give it a few seconds to dry and your skin is instantly silky to touch. I have even started to apply in in the night some times and when I do, I certainly wake up with fresher looking skin. On days I don’t want to use my heavy night cream I use this as a cheat.
This serum is almost transparent gel-like, easy to spread and great for removing melanin pigmentations. I use it generously on my face and neck. Given how economic the pricing is I don’t have to think about saving it. I feel I need 3 to 4 pumps to cover my entire face and neck area. It’s best to use a moisturiser after the serum. I like that this serum is so gentle on the skin that even when I had a bad cold and a scratched up nose it never stung.
Price: Rs. 399/- for 45 ml
Step 4: Whitening Fairness Gel Cream with SPF15
I love to wear this cream when I’m stepping out for small errands in the vicinity. This is because my usual sunscreen that is 50 SPF is very thick and oily and I would never step out bare-faced. This cream is gel based again like the other products in the range and also contains SPF 15 protection which is ideal for a short time frame. This cream instantly lends a subtle shine after usage on the serum.
Rs.129/- for 25 gms
Rs. 249/- for 50 gms
The Verdict: This range is genuinely value for money and delivers on the right check boxes. While it’s too soon to tell its effects on my pigmentation, I do see fresher skin after a night application. It compares really well to some high end (and pricey) products which is why I really like the range.
The only con for me would be the fragrance that may be a deal breaker for those who like to go fragrance-free.
