The Summer Dress

The only good thing about the sweltering hot weather is that we get to bring out them summer dresses. Here's our take on summer dresses. These ones here were especially designed with feedback from Sonu and me by Pocketfullofdresses.com and we were so excited that they turned out to match our styles and personalities so closely.

Here's what we expect from the perfect summer dress:

Comfort: Soft cotton, breathable linens, light viscose and good quality voiles are the only things the summer skin can tolerate. We like the flowy-ness fabrics like viscose offer along with the comfort factor. Linens vary in thickness and quality so make sure you find yourself a soft one.

Style: The silhouette on a summer dress can vary from V neck spaghetti styles to the 40s style conservative dress. Whatever your pick, we make sure there is plenty of versatility to work with. In this case Sonu's dress is so workable with jackets and wraps for cooler weathers while I can wear mine as a tunic r even a blouse.

Colour: A summer dress has to be fun. Bright colours, bold prints, quirky motifs make a summer dress all the more fun. While tribal prints, nautical stripes and flamingos seem to be the flavour of the season, we feel that polka dots, florals, hearts and stars remain timeless styles for a summer dress.

Body type: It's important to pick a dress that suits you. A summer dress doesn't have to be short or flowy. Maxi lengths, straighter styles, mid calf lengths and longer sleeves are all doable in the right fabric and colour choice.

  12. first, before i start, i would like to commend you both on building somewhat of a brand name as stylists. it is incredibly hard to do, and both of you have managed to achieve it, which is undoubtedly impressive. however- and i do implore you to take this as constructive criticism- while looking through your blog, i realised that there are many flaws in your fashion sense. as somebody who comes from a very fashion oriented and a rather international background, i am saddened to see that Indian street fashion (which has been known for centuries as quirky, stylish, and beautiful) isn't pushing the boundaries.

    1) while one of your selling points is that you style according to body type, i have to say both of you don't, and wear fabrics and cuts that don't flatter your body types at all.

    2) i don't think both of you keep up with the current fashion trends, and i am disappointed to know that this is what the rest of india thinks is fashionable. You are both in a position to change fashion for indian women, but hardly do the research and analysis to bring that to india...which is sad since you have to power to. the most important thing is to follow designer shows obsessively, and learn from the styles that are portrayed on the runway. that's not to say you should walk around with a massive alexander mcqueen fur hood, but incorporate the different in a way that pulls the outfit together, not in a way that makes it bizarre.

    3) i would suggest that both of you graduate from Zara and FCUK, which are mediocre brands in our age, and bring in some high end- which does not mean money, but again, means research on what that is in the first place (and a good tailor is indispensable).

    4) while both of you seem to challenge yourselves, you remain in a very average and staid bracket, which is not acceptable for the women reading your blog, again, because you have the power to change that.

    5) i would suggest you look into blogs like the sartorialist, garance dore, susy bubble, etc., and pick up helpful tips wherever you see them.

I hope you take this as constructive criticism- it really is meant as it. i realise that you moderate your comments and have noticed the glaring lack of any constructive or negative comments. the thing is, it is only comments like these that will help you improve. having a blog full of comments telling you how perfect and wonderful you are won't really achieve much as far as your style evolution is concerned. i'm not bothered with if you post this or not- i'm more concerned with both of you reading it and taking it to heart if you wish.

P.s- you are better than this though...http://www.thegirlatfirstavenue.com/ :)
