We’re all for remixing and re-wearing the same clothes with a twist. When I received this soft cotton kurta from Okhai, I realised that a kurta is the Indian equivalent of the western LBD. If it’s in a plain, solid hue it’s your fashion canvas. You can paint it any style you want. We’ve already shown you how you can westernise your kurta, but today, we show you how to rework a kurta for work, a dinner date with your family and weekend soirée with your girls.
A special mention to Okhai, a Charitable Trust where all proceeds from sales can only be used for the benefit of the artisans. The brand is an artisan led brand as opposed to a brand where the designer makes all the profit and the artisans are paid a small sum for their service.
It not only helps provide livelihood opportunities to women at their homes but is also preserving the ancient craft of appliqué work. I especially love their idea of Working Women for Working Women: The urban working woman who wears an Okhai kurta to work, gives rise to another working woman in the artisan. The artisan creates many more beautiful kurtas for the urban woman to wear to work. I’m proudly an Okhai woman!
